Ridging

Ridging is the process of creating a ‘sand wall’ on which a farmer will plant his trees. This concept will aid in the drainage of a wetland as well as improve the depth of the usable topsoil in an orchard with a shallow soil profile. Our implement works on the working row between the plant rows and shifts the unused topsoil with a disc implement to the plant row in order to create a ridge. The extra topsoil will thereby be used effectively to aid in root growth with optimal development and a stronger tree as a result. Due to the nature of a ridge, it will create more run-off from rainwater and will thus aid in keeping the tree’s roots from standing in wet, water-soaked soil.
